Measuring Radar Antenna Patterns with a VNA

October 3, 2022

The rollout of 70 GHz–80 GHz 5G systems and the subsequent need for more E-band devices (like radar antennas) has placed greater importance on using Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs) and for testing high-frequency components and devices. Measuring radar antenna patterns with a VNA is a common task in the R&D and validation stage of a product lifecycle. The measurement setup consists of a 2-port VNA, positioner controller, positioner, and control PC. Optional hardware includes an optional over-the-air (OTA) chamber, Signal Generator, and a Spectrum Analyzer. A VNA however has the additional advantage of combining the functions of these two optional instruments.
